ABOUT ME

Aaniin! Kwey! Tansi & Hello!

My name is Desirée, I was born and raised in The Pas, a small town in northern Manitoba, on treaty 5 territory.

I am Ojibwe/Cree Métis & Scottish on my maternal side and French on my paternal side. I live and work on the unceded, traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabe People with my partner and three young children.

I started beading during the first winter of the pandemic, as a way to cope with the isolation and to try to improve my mental health. I looked forward to friday nights when I could devote my time to my first few projects, and started calling this my very own 'friday night beading club'.

The BOO-zhee Board

The design came to me in a vision, in the spring of 2022, while I was struggling with an acute attack of physical pain that had been chronic for years.

While unable to move or do anything I thought about what I needed, and the idea of a beading board with a lid came to me.

After looking around the market I realized I needed something that suited my life as a busy mom with mobility challenges.

The BOO-zhee Board gives you 'a beautiful space to create beautiful things - wherever you are!'...the lid provides a safe space for your beads, and a fast and easy way to work on your project when out and about!.

The BOO-zhee Board is also an expression of love and cultural pride for the community, a way to connect and build back the literal and figurative cultural legacy pieces that so many communities lost.
